Grand Teton National Park
Grand Teton National Park, with approximately 310,000 acres, was established on February 26, 1929 and named for Grand Teton which is the tallest mountain in the Teton Range. At 13,775 feet, Grand Teton rises abruptly more than 7.000 feet above Jackson Hole. The major peaks of the Teton Range were carved into their current shapes by long-vanished glaciers. Commencing 250,000-150,000 years ago, the Tetons went through several periods of glaciation with some areas of Jackson Hole covered by glaciers more than 2,000 feet thick.
